Olive Hills Estate

A passion, a professional interest and personal goal is the backbone and basis of the life and times of Olive Hills Estate, Rutherglen.

The vineyards and mansion at Olive Hills was built and developed by a Scottish immigrant, Hugh Fraser in 1886. A vision of grandeur and a passion to produce fine wines in the beautiful Rutherglen region was the ultimate goal of Hugh Fraser. Due to family tragedy and the outbreak of the influenza virus, Hugh Fraser left the region. Over the next 100 years and with little maintenance and neglect over the years the mansion and property were in disrepair. With the dreams of creating a unique vineyard and winery oozing with character, Ross and Kay Perry purchased the heritage listed house and 500 acres of land of Rutherglen in 1997. After much love and attention over a decade saw the complete refurbishment of the home to the glory the heritage property displays today.

Ross, having previously studied Onelogy at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga and Kay having previous roles in marketing and sales came to the forefront when developing Olive Hills Estate Winery.

Today a 40-acre non-irrigated vineyard stands strong with primarily Shiraz and Durif varieties. Vines are close planted to reduce vigour and insecticides are never used. A minimal tillage approach is used and perennial grasses are sown between the vine rows. As a result tonnage and yields are very low which gives Ross the intensity and richness he is seeking in his wines.

Functions and weddings have become very popular in the restored original winery, which features the original beams and chandeliers.
